SHINE
What is SHINE?
The SHINE program is an eight-week program framed to facilitate teenage girls connecting to positive pathways in their lives and encountering their true value. This inspirational and experimental program is built on life principles and is practical, life equipping and values forming.
The SHINE program was birthed in 1997 in Redfern Sydney and has since been successfully piloted in Sydney high schools with the enthusiastic cooperation of school principals, staff and students and parents. SHINE is now in its eighth year of operation and running in over 60 schools across Australia and many locations internationally. SHINE has had a strong and positive impact on girls from indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The SHINE program is about equipping the next generation by strengthening young girls in our local community.
SHINE is suitable for any age group but is ideal for girls in years 7 and 8. We have also experienced significant success with a combination group of years 6 and 7. The program is run by highly trained, local and committed facilitators and can be flexible in format. Groups of 12 – 15 girls engage in the SHINE program experience connecting them with strong and positive female role models. Upon completion the girls are presented with a comprehensive and beautifully presented manual and certificate.

Through skincare, makeup, hair-care and nail-care, girls discover their value in their uniqueness and understand that they are worth taking care of.
I have strength!
Explores the power of choice in each girl’s life and reinforces the truth that decisions determine destiny. Covers willpower, feelings, peer pressure, problem solving, etiquette and deportment.
I have purpose!
Purpose and destiny are examined in the light of looking after themselves; the hopes and dreams they have for their life and the confidence they walk in. This section is about the girls loving who they are and being the best they can be!
SHINE presents the truth that every girls has intrinsic value and is somebody. This journey is explored through the concepts of worth, strength & purpose. SHINE challenges the world’s view of beauty, affirming that true beauty is about loving who you are and letting it SHINE through.
